Jodi Ohl

Jodi is so excited to be a part of ReMe Retreats!  Five short  years ago, she was entering her 10th year of a banking career, and 15

years altogether of corporate management, when she decided to take a leap of faith to do what she loves full time.  She now paints, teaches, creates, writes, and repeats!  She hasn't looked back since.  (Or at least not for too long!)

Formerly from New York, Jodi has lived in North Carolina for fifteen years.   When she's not painting colorful and quirky compositions full of inspirational messages or contemporary textured abstracts, you can find her teaching both online and in person at retreats across the country.

You'll also find snippets of her work and how-to articles in more than twenty five international mixed media art magazines, such as Cloth Paper and Scissors, Somerset Studios, Artful Blogging, Artful Journaling, Cloth Paper Scissors, Studios, and more. She has contributed to four mixed media art books, and she has a few more surprises on the way!  Big news--Jodi is in the final stages of writing her own book for North Light Books, due to be released in the latter part of 2016!

What Jodi enjoys most is helping students to find the artist within them.  She continues to look forward to the manner in which she's able to connect and bond with guests during the course of our
ReMe Retreats.  It's a luxury we're not often afforded, and one that she never takes for granted.

Jean Skipper

Ocracoke is my all time favorite creative
destination, and I'm looking forward to
sharing it with you!
Jean Skipper lives and works in Vass, North Carolina, with her Husband, Ken, and their menagerie of cats and dogs.  Amidst the undeniable chaos that is their lives, she's also thrilled to say that she's living her dream as a full time Working Artist and Teacher from her studio at Creative Studios, NC.
The road to this happy place was a long and windy one for Jean.  It lead from her birthplace in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to her 15 year career in banking, to five years as an art gallery owner in Southern Pines, North Carolina.  As she looks back on all of it now, each and every step along the way was a necessary part of the process, and it’s increased her appreciation for all that surrounds her now.
In Jean's work as a mixed media artist, she transforms solid copper, sterling silver, found objects, and other treasures into highly textured jewelry and assemblage creations.  She especially loves sentimental whimsical one-of-a-kind artwork.  Every piece that she creates has a story, and she's looking forward to sharing them with you during your ReMe Retreat.

Theresa Zurku

Theresa in Front of Our Historic Inn on Ocracoke Island
(In the words of Jean Skipper.)  Theresa Zurku is the most amazing friendly outgoing funny women you’ll ever meet.  I know this because she’s my oldest and dearest friend. We met on the first day of kindergarten forty-five years ago in a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  I’m happy to say that we’re still friends today; I'm excited that she's agreed to join us in Ocracoke; and I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to share her with you during your ReMe Retreat.

Theresa lives in Pittsburgh.  She's spent her career counseling youth and their families with the goal of maintaining their relationships in the home.  She also now manages an in-home family therapy counseling program.

Please click here to read about Theresa's experience at our first ever ReMe Retreat in her own words.

Theresa holds the esteemed title of "Den Mother" for ReMe Ocracoke in May
As you can see, her leadership abilities are top-notch.

Debbie Keen

It is with great pleasure that we announce that Debbie Keen has enthusiastically volunteered to serve as our Den Mother for our October ReMe Retreats on Ocracoke Island!

Debbie is a wildly creative warm and wonderful jewelry artist who lives in the mountains of North Carolina. Debbie was one of the founding artists of Artist Alley, a gallery specializing in the promotion of North Carolina Art and Artists. She and Jean met during her time there. With her blessings, Jean eventually became the owner of the gallery, and Debbie, Jean, Penny, and Jodi formed lasting friendships as a result.

Debbie’s art is born through the union of lampworking and jewelry design. She uses only the finest, imported glass rods that are warmed into molten states, then manipulated into beads and adorned with smaller threads of glass to create rich textures. Though each glass bead can stand alone in its beauty, Debbie joins them with the highest quality sterling silver, Swarovski crystals, pearls, and other gemstones to create the lasting pieces of wearable art in The Keen Collection.

Debbie working magic in an open flame.
