ReMe-The Sandhills A Tour around Moore County

A couple of weeks ago we announced our newest retreat location for the ReMe as "The Sandhills" of NC.  Where is exactly the Sandhills and what does this area offer you might be asking?

Officially (according to Wikipedia) the term "Sandhills" comes from the topography of this area dating back approximately 20 million years ago:

The Sandhills is a region in the interior of the U.S. states of North Carolina and South Carolina. It is a strip of ancient beach dunes which generally divides the Piedmont from the coastal plain, and is the evidence of a former coastline when the ocean level was higher, or the land lower. The beach deposits were formed principally during the Miocene Epoch, about 20 million years ago. Typical beach fossils are found along the front edges. The coastal plain is terraced from other ocean levels, but none appear to have been so long-lasting, so as to build up dunes of this size.

Moore County is the official 'home' of ReMe. Our area is probably best known for its pristine golf courses  (including the majestic Pinehurst #2 course which has hosted the men's and women's US Open several times),  but you will also find quaint small town life nestled amidst the long leaf pine trees.    The area is rich in the arts, with hundreds of artists, musicians, writers, and crafter's calling The Sandhills home as well.

You can travel many of the side roads off the beaten path and find stellar homes nestled in between lush landscapes, bringing you back in time when properties had personality and not cut from from the same 'cookie cutter.

Churches dot the community and tie the neighborhoods, families and communities together.

We have several hotels but there are also a variety of Bed and Breakfasts to visit for tea or a cozy weekend stay.

In the heart of downtown Southern Pines you can find a variety of locally owned businesses touting unique goods, handmade items, even olive oils and fine cheese.

Of course there is the iconic Sunrise Theater that is a nostalgic favorite for many.  Grab a glass of wine at the box office concession stand and enjoy a Oscar winner film after grabbing dinner at one of our eclectic dining choices

During ReMe-The Sandhills, we not only immerse you into several days of artistic endeavors, we will treat our guest to evenings around The Sandhills with many extra surprises in store for our guests.

We are hoping you join us for this one of a kind retreat experience this fall,  we are anxiously waiting your arrival down here in the heart of North Carolina! We know you will fall in love with The Sandhills and enjoy every minute of your ReMe Experience.

Birds Of A Feather at ReMe - Ocracoke - May 2016

Our ReMe Retreat on Ocracoke Island last week went by in the blink of an eye.  We gathered... we created... we laughed... we created... we sang... we created.. we ate.. we created... and then we laughed some more!  The memories that we'll carry from our time together will last a lifetime, and the artwork that we created was nothing short of amazing too.

Jodi Ohl and Jean Skipper collaborated to lead their "Birds of A Feather" class, and the results were far beyond anything that they'd expected.  We at ReMe extend a special note of gratitude to ColourArte and Paverpol USA.  We made extensive use of their lines of products in these projects and throughout our ReMe Retreat, and as always the results were outstanding.  We endorse both of these brands, and we encourage you to experiment with them in your work too.

Photos say it better than we possibly can, so please enjoy this glimpse of our finished projects.

If you'd like to see a wider of variety of photos of the magic that was this ReMe Retreat, and behind the scenes glimpses of our seaside classroom, please visit our Facebook Page by clicking this link.  New photos will be added daily throughout the next week.

Spotlight On Our ReMe Sister - Patti Tolley Parrish!

The Wildly Talented Patti Tolley Parrish
We founded ReMe Retreats with Art and Community at our core.  With that as our foundation, one of the most wonderful and awe inspiring discoveries that we've made along the way has been in learning about the remarkable women who have joined us as guests of ReMe.  We're proud to call each of them our ReMe Sisters.

In what we hope will be the first of many such posts, today we'll shine our spotlight on one of our beloved.  Yesterday we had the extreme pleasure of attending a class taught by Patti Tolley Parrish at Creative Studios NC where Gelli Printing was the order of the day.

Patti and her husband, Dave, have an amazing love story that brings tears of joy and laughter to our eyes each time we hear it.  She's talented, creative, witty, and kind; and she shares all of this and more in the classroom.  Patti's passionate about her subject matter, and she exhibited great patience with even the most "special" students among us.  (No.  We won't name names!)

A few of the highlights from our time with Patti follow:

Fun in the studio with Amy Smith!
Jan McClay and Mary Wright, Artists and Instructors.
Look how clean their work space is before class!
Jean Skipper and Jodi Ohl during the first class they've ever taken together.
Yes.  I did Gelli Print all over my shirt!
Tools of The Trade
A few of our favorites from Patti's line of stencils at istencils.com..

Betty would be so proud!

At the conclusion of our Gelli Printing Class, several of the ladies continued their adventure with Patti as they created her Gelli JumpStart Journals.  Patti's original Gelli JumpStart Journals were featured in the 10th Anniversary Edition of Cloth Paper Scissors Magazine, and they're even better in person! Gorgeous books were created by all, and I'm sure that photos will be featured on Facebook this week.

You Meet Extraordinary People When You Actually Listen.....

With our next ReMe Retreat coming up in just a few more weeks,  one of the most remarkable and extraordinary outcomes of our time together, is discovering  many of the hidden layers and fascinating stories each of our guests so bravely and openly shares as we all get to know one another.

As Celeste mentions in her Ted Talk,  expect to be amazed when you are talking to someone and you will not be disappointed.  We've found at ReMe that statement couldn't be more true.

Over the course of our  last several retreats,  we have been in the company of fascinating and talented  women!  Some of our common ties start off with the love of art, creativity, as well as  enjoying the company of other souls-but we also come away learning that even with such varied backgrounds,  we all have many, many other mutual experiences that bind us together.

We are proud to encourage (and hopefully nourish) this opening of our hearts and minds to others during our retreats.  We set aside time to not just be creative, but to enjoy real life company of  amazing human beings each and every day of our retreat.   Learning about each and making life long friends is the most cherished experience we all end up having during a ReMe retreat.

Take a few minutes to listen to this talk and see how you can have better conversations  and let people in your life by first and foremost, by being present, too.

ReMe Friends--While our May event is sold out,  stay tuned for some exciting news coming soon!!!

We've been teasing you for awhile and appreciate your patience...the time will be here very shortly when we can make our next big announcement!!! :)))

Until Next Time,
Jodi and Jean
